INSIDE BUSINESS COUNCIL'S
PROFESSIONAL PILLAR
Professional development is a core pillar of Business Council and a central part of our member experience. BC is dedicated to helping members grow through hands-on experiences, skill-building opportunities, and meaningful connections that prepare them for success beyond college. Throughout the year, members engage in extensive professional programming, including resume reviews, interview preparation, career panels, and personal branding workshops. BC also hosts signature events such as Corporate Partnership Night, Professor Chats, and Alumni Speaker Series, giving members firsthand insight into industry trends and career pathways.
A cornerstone of BC’s professional programming is our mentorship program, which pairs every new member with a senior, peer, and alumni mentor. This structure allows members to receive personalized guidance, learn from diverse perspectives, and build long-lasting professional relationships. Through these initiatives, BC members not only develop critical career skills but also cultivate a network of peers, alumni, and industry professionals. Our professional pillar equips members with the tools, confidence, and connections needed to excel both during college and in their future careers.

PROFESSOR CHATS
BC hosts Professor Chats, where a variety of Gies College of Business faculty join members for interactive discussions on a wide range of business topics. These sessions provide unique opportunities to learn directly from professors’ expertise, ask questions, and gain perspectives that extend beyond the classroom. Members can explore current trends, career advice, and practical insights while building connections with faculty who are invested in their professional growth.
CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP NIGHT
BC hosts Corporate Partnership Night, where members connect directly with our corporate partners to learn about their companies, culture, and available roles. These interactive sessions provide valuable networking opportunities, industry insights, and guidance for internships and full-time positions, helping members prepare for future careers.

PROFESSOR WALK AND TALK
BC hosts Professor Walk & Talks, where members have the opportunity to engage with faculty in a relaxed, informal setting. During the fall, these discussions take place on a scenic walk to the Japan Gardens, combining professional insight with an enjoyable outdoor experience. Members gain valuable perspectives from professors while building connections in a casual, interactive environment.
ALUMNI NETWORKING SOCIAL
During the summer, BC hosts an Alumni Networking Social, bringing together members and alumni for an informal gathering. This event provides opportunities to build connections, exchange professional insights, and strengthen relationships across the BC community in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

JC PENNY SUIT-UP EVENT
BC members volunteer at JC Penney’s Suit Up Event, assisting students in selecting professional attire for interviews, career fairs, and other career opportunities. This hands-on service allows members to support their peers in preparing for professional success while gaining experience in event organization, customer service, and community engagement.
OUR MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

PEER
Peer mentors are fellow new members who provide support, encouragement, and advice from the perspective of someone navigating similar academic and extracurricular experiences. They foster collaboration, accountability, and camaraderie among members.

SENIOR
Senior mentors are experienced BC members who guide newer members through organizational processes, leadership opportunities, and balancing involvement with academics. They help mentees develop skills and confidence within BC and the Gies College of Business community.

ALUMNI
Alumni mentors bring real-world industry experience and career insight to the program. They provide guidance on career paths, networking, and professional development while sharing lessons learned from their own experiences after college.
