FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW IS BC DIFFERENT FROM A BUSINESS FRATERNITY?

Business Council has a few things that make it unique. Firstly, BC is only at the University of Illinois, allowing current BC members and alumni to have extremely strong connections due to similar experiences in school and in BC, which has been so helpful for many. In addition to that, your first semester in BC is your New Member semester, rather than pledge ship.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS?

The overall goal is to help you better understand what it means to be a member of Business Council, as well as for us to get to know you and your experiences. Because of this, we host a combination of professional interviews and social events. In our interviews, we ask all behavioral questions and we want to hear about you and your experiences! We look forward to getting to know you all!

DO I HAVE TO BE A BUSINESS STUDENT TO APPLY?

Not at all! Currently, we have members in majors ranging from Mechanical Engineering and Animal Sciences to Psychology and Dance. However, we are firstly a Gies organization and we have many members who take traditional Gies pathways. We provide a holistic experience for all majors and backgrounds!

CAN I APPLY TO BC MORE THAN ONCE?

If you are a freshman or a sophomore that semester, yes! Unfortunately, we do not provide feedback after our interviews as it would affect the standardization and fairness of our recruitment. However, many current members of Business Council applied more than once, and we highly encourage you to continue applying.

WHAT DOES A NEW MEMBER SEMESTER LOOK LIKE?

Your first semester is filled with Professional, Service, and Social events for you to grow both personally and professionally. We are flexible with outside commitments and prioritize your experiences as a New Member first. From the moment you join Business Council as a New Member, you are also not only given the opportunity but are highly encouraged to get involved by joining committees and planning events.

HOW IS BC INVOLVED WITH GIES COLLEGE OF BUSINESS?

Business Council is the premier organization of the College of Business and we continuously maintain relations with Gies and its faculty. We support this partnership through events such as IMPACT Day (our college-wide day of service), CBDC (our inter-business fraternity dance competition for charity), Dinner with Gies, our Undergraduate Networking Symposium, and many events with Deans and Professors.

BUSINESS COUNCIL

FA'25 PILLARS VIDEO

Business Council is built on a strong foundation of community growth and opportunity.  This video offers an inside look at our three core pillars and how they shape the BC experience from professional development and leadership to connection and impact. We hope this gives you a clearer picture of life in Business Council and helps you see how you can grow within our organization.

INTERVIEW PREP VIDEO

Business Council strongly hopes to make the world a more inclusive place, and we know that starts from within. In efforts to give every applicant an equal and best possible chance, Business Council members have recorded this Mock Interview video. This gives applicants a place to start when preparing for a BC interview. We truly hope this helps everyone in the recruitment process and we look forward to seeing you all ace your interviews!
